Will your film survive the next global data crash? Is intellectual property a thing of the past? Can we ever trust what we see on screen again?
If you’ve ever wondered, you’re in the right place.
The Black Cube explores how moving images are conceived, produced and experienced — through the lens of technology. Each issue features a curated selection of extraordinary industry voices at the frontline of creative and technological progress, sharing insights into their process and the wider resonance of their practice. No high-tech vs low-tech hierarchies. No fear. No hype. We unpack the thorniest debates about technology, creativity, and the space in between — and look with curiosity and a sense of wonder at what we can create with the tools at our disposal.

What happens in a cinema when the projector is off?
CinemaO is a new hybrid space in Milan, reimagining what cinemas can be. Planned to open in late 2025, it will operate both as a working space and as a venue for a curated programme of residencies, screenings and exhibitions. A home and a community dedicated to moving image research, production and film‑tech innovation. A stage to debate, showcase, and test new ideas.
Our mission is to expand the possibilities and reach of creative and entrepreneurial practices within cinema and the wider moving image industry.
Say hello at ciao@cinemao.co if you’d like to know more about our events, open calls, and work‑in‑progress in the lead‑up to the opening.
